I Would Be So Happy If I Stopped Pursuing Happiness

The most simple and most used terms like Happiness, Ego, Light, I, Love, etc. are the most difficult to describe and explain in words. It can just be felt.

In this article, allow me to talk about happiness.

As a kid, were we worried about what happiness means?
Or,
How to be happy?
Or,
What are the things to do or achieve to become happy?

No!

We were simply happy without being aware of the what, how, why aspect.

These days, a photographer says if I capture the perfect Milky Way backdrop with the snow-clad mountains in front then I will be happy. And a businessman says if my company reaches $1 billion in valuation then I will be happy. And an author says if I make it on the NYT best-selling list then I will be happy.

Let’s say they made it, achieved it, captured it, now ask them:

‘Are you really happy now? Surely, you don’t want anything more now. Now you will remain happy forever, right?’

Wrong!

This false feeling of happiness, in reality, a ‘kick’, will wane. And sooner than later, they will crave another shot of happiness.

I know all this — that happiness is illusory, transient, ephemeral. But still, I am chasing it! I want more followers. I want more people to read my work. If I get to 200, I want 500. If I get to 500, I want 1000 and it goes on.

The more I chase happiness, the farther it gets away from me. It's like a dog chasing its tail.

So, what I have learned from the sages and from my own life experiences is not to chase happiness but be content with whatever I have got and still keep pursuing excellence just for the sake of it.

And second, that happiness is an inside job.

So to conclude, I have had enough of chasing happiness outside, now it’s time to find it within.
